Radlagerspiel einstellen!
Adjusting wheel bearing end-float!

WICHTIG !! Die folgende, einfache Einstellung funktioniert nur bei senkrecht stehendem Hinterachsgehäuse, da die Wellen mit ihrem Gewicht nach unten drücken und so sauber in den Lagern liegen. IMPORTANT !! The following simple adjustments work only if the complete rear axle housing is split from the gear box and stood vertical. Because the axle shafts fall down with their own weight and lie secure in the bearings. For horizontal adjustments look in the manual.  
Zunächst wird in jeden Achstrichter ein neuer Simmer-Ring mit einem Hammer und einem Stück Kunststoff in ihren Sitz geschlagen. Die Lippe muß zum Differential zeigen.   The first step is to install a new seal into each axle shaft housing. The lip of the seal should be turned inward. I used a hammer and a piece of plastic to install the seal into the axle housing.  
Den Raum mit etwas Fett füllen. Hier sollte man nur das beste Radlagerfett verwenden. Es läßt sich später kein Fett nachfüllen, da kein Schmiernippel vorhanden ist. Die besten Fette liefern sicherlich die Lagerhersteller. Sie wissen am Besten, welches Fett für ihre Lager geeignet ist.   Fill in the area above the seal with a little grease. Please use a good brand of grease, because there is no grease fitting to fill with later, it is a lifelong filling. Find out from the bearing manufacturer what kind of grease they recommend , they will know the best grease to use on their bearings. 
Zuerst wird die rechte Achse mit allen Scheiben und der Brems-Ankerplatte festgeschraubt. Hier habe ich die alten Ausgleichsscheiben wieder verwendet. Es wird auch noch nichts gemessen. Nun wird die linke Achse in den Achstrichter gesteckt. Die beiden Achs-Enden berühren sich im Differentialkorb. Drei Muttern am Lagerbock handfest andrehen. Das Maß zwischen den Flächen ermitteln. Nun die Dicke der Ausgleichsscheiben und der Brems-Ankerplatte messen. Die Scheiben und die Platte sollen zusammen 0,10 bis 0,30 mm (0,004-0,012 inch) dicker sein als der gemessene Spalt, um das nötige Lagerspiel zu erreichen.  1. Install the right hand axle half and use the old shims and the brake backing plate, then tighten the nuts. 2. Install the left hand axle half. The ends of the axles need to butt together inside the differential gear box. 3. Then tighten three nuts by hand and inspect the clearance between the bearing retainer and the axle housing. 4. Now inspect the thickness of the brake backing plate and add as much shims as required to fill out the gap between the bearing retainer and the axle housing. At least add another 0,3 mm (0,012 inch) shim to make sure the bearing has a bit "play". For horizontal adjusting read the manual.  
Das exakte Spiel der Radlager läßt sich nicht mit allen alten Scheiben einstellen. Ich habe eine Scheibe in der benötigten Dicke aus Dichtungspapier hergestellt.   The clearance was not correct with all my old shims. I needed some more so I made a new shim, with the correct thickness, out of gasket material.

So eine Scheiße, ich wollte heute noch das Kegelrad einsetzen. Aber ich komme mit dem Lager nicht am Tellerrad vorbei. Das Kegelrad muß vor dem Differential eingebaut werden. Jetzt kann ich den linken Achstrichter noch einmal abbauen. Tja, so ist das Leben, ich bin auch nur ein Mensch. Feierabend!   The last job for today should have been to install the drive-pinion, but because I installed the left axle shaft housing first, there isn't enough clearance for the drive-pinion to go into place. It must be installed before installing the differential gears. Now I will have to take the left housing back off. I say again, pay close attention to details when taking things apart, so you can save yourself time when you are putting them back together. I learned this the hard way, so take some notes and some pictures when you are working on your Dexta, it will pay off in the long run. This is just a part of life, so I say it's time to quit for the day.
